The Plate Tectonic Theory:
In 1915 Alfred Weneger a German meteorologist and geologist presented the theory of the Continental Drift. The Continental Drift is where parts of the earth’s crust slowly drift over a liquid core. Wegener considered that there was a super-continent 200 million years ago and he named it Pangaea, meaning “All Earth”. The Plate Tectonic Theory is a modern version of the Continental Drift Theory. The Plate Tectonic Theory states that the outer shell of the Earth (the lithosphere) is divided into multiple plates that move across the Earth surface.
Evidence that supports the Plate Tectonic Theory:
The cause of plate movement:
The cause of plate movement is due to the strong heat in the Earth’s core and this cause molten rock in the mantle layer to move. It moves in a convention cells that produces warm material and it raises, cool, and finally sinks down. When the cooled material sinks down it is warmed and rises again.
